this time on the Vital Vader Podcast. I want to empower you to not just trust your instincts but to honor them with confidence, to recognize the incredible natural intelligence of your child's immune system, which have evolved over millions of years through human adaptation. And by embracing both ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and the innate capabilities of your baby's immune system, we can unlock their full potential for resilience and vitality. This timeless wisdom and timeless interventions really more important now than ever, really more important now than ever. Imagine a world where your child's immunity is so effortlessly strong they rarely fall ill and thrive with minimal interventions. What if your child's immune system is already immensely capable but their highly sophisticated immune system is to some extent inactivated and perhaps even further debilitated through unnecessary interventions or environmental factors? Imagine the immense potential we could unlock by nurturing this innate resilience with time-tested practices of Ayurvedic medicine and supportive, holistic parenting approaches. Welcome to the Vital Veda podcast. I am your host, dylan Smith. I'm an Ayurvedic practitioner, a health educator, a health practitioner, a father and someone who is very overdue to present this podcast. I've presented multiple articles. I've done innumerable consultations with my clients and patients on this topic of exploring natural immunization practices and herbal protocols for babies and children through Ayurveda and holistic approaches. Now this is, of course, an important topic, particularly since COVID. We're going to touch on immunization programs, including conventional immunization programs such as vaccines. We're going to talk about a bunch of stuff, a medical cord care and birth itself. We're going to talk about breast milk, nature's perfect immunization, ayurvedic immunization programs and rituals, ayurvedic herbal immunization programs which are more specific on the herbal programs, herbal interventions. We're going to talk about the honey myth Can infants consume honey? And we're going to address infant botulism and cultural wisdom. We're going to talk about the conventional route of vaccines for babies, vaccines for when traveling overseas and natural immunization program. But the idea of this podcast, the real principle of what I intend for you, my dear friend parent listener, is I want to empower you to not just trust your instincts but to honor them with confidence, to recognize the incredible natural intelligence of your child's immune system, which have evolved over millions of years through human adaptation. I want you yeah, I'm talking to you, listening to know that that is enough. That is more than enough, and by embracing both ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and the innate capabilities of your baby's immune system, we can unlock their full potential for resilience and vitality, even in today's world, which at many times can seem overly toxic and hectic, this is what I want you to take home today is the innate immune capacity of you and your babies and your children.
Speaker 1:Let's start with the topic of umbilical cord care. Let's start with birth. It all starts with birth. I mean it starts before birth, preconception and that's the biggest thing we work with in VitalVeda. We see patients for preconception, for fertility issues, for fertility optimization, because it starts before conception. Whatever the state of his seed, his sperm and her ovum is her eggs, that is the state of that future human for their whole life. So that's why it's my personally, my favorite intervention. Point of intervention is before conception, because we can really optimize that seed which will most certainly influence that future human's whole health, including their immunity.
Speaker 1:Now, let's now go a bit later down the timeline for those who missed that one, and let's talk about umbilical cord care. This is a common thing. We know that at the moment of birth, approximately one-third of a baby's blood remains outside of their body. It remains in the placenta and the umbilical cord body. It remains in the placenta and the umbilical cord and it's quite conventional knowledge. Now, the benefits of delayed cord clamping, although it's still not known enough. Delaying cord clamping by just 90 seconds can significantly benefit the baby by allowing this blood to transfer into their body, increasing their blood volume by up to 60%. The common thing is baby comes out, snip it off, just get rid of that cord. It's in our way in the operating room and we just want to make the baby more clean. And all that ridiculous rush and that at most times unnecessary medical, inappropriate medical intervention and all the resources for this episode and what I'm talking about you'll find in the show notes.
Speaker 1:So stem cells also. Stem cells are transferred hscs, hematopic stem cells, which are essential for lifelong blood production and tissue repair. That's also transferred when the cord clamping is delayed. Iron stores the extra blood which provides enough iron to sustain the body through the first year. This reduces the risk of iron deficiency and anemia. And, of course, white blood cells and antibiotics are also passed on after delayed cord clamping to help fight infections. So this natural progression and process has started being supported, even in hospitals. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists now recommends delayed cord clamping at least 30 to 60 seconds in both term and preterm infants to maximize all these benefits which I just talked about. So by allowing this natural process to unfold, parents can give their newborns a powerful start in life, rich in nutrients, stem cells and immune support. So it really starts In Ayurveda. When we work at the level of seed or we work in these very early stages, it creates a huge effect on their whole health and before we move on to the baby.
Speaker 1:We're going to stay on the topic topic of birth. I would like to also emphasize the importance of having a vaginal birth over a c-section, and not that it's always the case and that it sometimes. C-section is the most evolutionary and the most appropriate thing that can be performed. But still I'm surprised at how many people don't know how much more beneficial a vaginal birth is getting the good microbiomes, getting certain bacteria that you can't get otherwise. And now it's known if you have a C-section, for whatever reason, you can just swab the vagina and put some bacteria on the baby, which helps a little bit. But having a vaginal birth will also create some good immunobacteria. This is something that some people just don't want to go through a vaginal birth. They don't want to crack open their vagina, they don't want to deal with the pain, they'd rather just be numbed with anesthesia and have a C-section, I see it. So I hope that if you're listening to this and you didn't know that, that you can do some more research into the benefits of vaginal birth over C-section, and one of them is immunity, so delayed cord clamping.
Speaker 1:I'll briefly share something about lotus births. That is, a lotus birth is just like it sounds. It's when the baby's placenta and cord is still attached until it naturally falls off. So you imagine this baby, just a few hours old, one day old, and it's got an umbilical cord still attached to the placenta. And it's a beautiful practice. It keeps the cord blood going and all these beneficial immune boosting fluids and constituents, although really after an hour or so or a few hours it's definitely significantly basically empty. However it's, it's a beautiful, sacred process of honoring the placenta, which is like this sibling, this little sibling. The baby has had 10 months in the womb, which is little sibling, but also like older sibling. That it's nourished that baby, it's kept that baby alive, it's given them oxygen and nutrients and blood and all the things which it's needed to develop and stay alive and naturally falling off is a process called lotus birth.
Speaker 1:A process called lotus birth. It's a, it's something which can create a very present and intimate relationship with your baby. I've had first-hand experience with it and it was an incredibly rich procedure to dress the placenta every day because it's an organ right, it's a bloody organ and by putting rosemary powder every day, or maybe salt on day one and just rewrapping it every day to keep it kind of fresh and keep it preserved. Rather, it doesn't smell. I didn't have that experience, but it's a beautiful way, particularly for the father, who's usually within the first few days. Our placenta came off our baby naturally after five days and it was a beautiful process for the father to have an intimate time with the baby when, at a time when it's really just mother and baby, extremely intimate. So lotus birth yes, there's physical and immuno benefits. However, I think the natural patience and real deep presence and surrender to allowing nature's processes to deal with the birth is a wonderful thing with low birth. But anyhow, if you don't want to do that, that's fine. You don't want to carry a bag of a placenta wherever the baby moves around. You can just delay it by at least an hour or at least five minutes makes a huge effect.
Speaker 1:I'd like to touch on the baby's innate immune system and emphasize the sophistication of it because it's evolved over millions of years to be highly adaptive and resilient and we can support this immunization through minimal artificial interventions such as overuse of vaccines, overuse of chemicals, and this is going to foster the baby's natural immunity. We do whatever we can to foster their natural immunity. We have breast milk, which is nature's perfect immunization. It has adaptive antibodies, it has nutritional and hormonal support, it deals with the deficiencies iron, etc. Even for premature and c-section babies. There might be scares and fears from the doctors talking about deficiencies, but really the breast milk has it all. If and when healthy and it's even non-breastfed. Babies have strong innate immunity that can be nurtured with holistic practices.
Speaker 1:Super important to really feel this and genuinely confidently experience that your baby has an immune system that over millions of years human evolution has created and refined into this sophisticated system. And it doesn't take much to enliven that and to support that. Particularly proper postpartum rejuvenation, like good diet by the mother, good herbs, which really are essential to effectively rejuvenate the mother after this erratic hormonal party of birth and potentially a lot of imbalance and in fact, as we say, a lot of vata, air and space element. So herbs to effectively and efficiently rejuvenate the mother also plenty of rest, not Not going out, not going out within 40 days, to the wind, to the cafes, to the music, to the situations where there's people talking. I'm talking real postpartum rejuvenation.
Speaker 1:They call it the fourth trimester, they call it 40 days for 40 years, which means for 40 days if you really huddle down in a nest and facilitate the transition of a baby who's been in a womb for 10 months into our stimuli, the sensory stimuli of an environment which we live in outside of the womb. If you create a transition window from the first 11 days being quite step one, like real womb like, which means not a lot of light, not a lot of sounds, basically no wind, no direct sunlight, but can be used, of course, for jaundice and other things, but being gentle in all the senses, emulating that womb environment after day 11, from day 12 to day 40, stage 2, where it's less of a womb but integrating, transitioning towards the other parts of the house. So maybe now the mother's leaving her bedroom or she's going outside if it's good weather. She's having different people come now, not just mother and baby, it's other people slowly introducing. So this is what I mean by proper postpartum activities and proper postpartum rejuvenation crucial. And of course, another thing is keeping warm. Keeping the mother warm at this time, giving her hot, heating foods like black pepper and garlic and other spices to really open her channels and dilate her channels to let the vata and the imbalanced hormones leave the body. Keeping warm like almost sweating or sweating like being hot even in hot weathers. Keeping the mother warm and keeping the baby nice and covered. This is going to help with the future immune system and, of course, the mother is really the ultimate source for passing the immune system to the baby. So if you are listening to this podcast and you are listening in time, in the sense that, whether it's for you or for a friend of yours or a client of yours or the future baby of yours, if we can intervene early on in childhood, ie in the first couple months, first 40 days, first 11 days especially, we can really create a wonderful breeding ground of immune cells and killer white T cells and all the bacteria and viruses that are important to protect your baby's immune system.
Speaker 1:And for more on this you can check out our article on our blog on vitalvetacomau New Baby Care in Ayurveda and all these resources and links. Check out the show notes. You'll find a lot. Also, you can consult my wife or myself. My wife's name is Sole. She's a birth doula and a postpartum doula as well as works with people pre-conception, pregnancy, and you can, on our website, vitalvatorcomau, forward slash bookings and you can have an intimate in-person care with myself or my wife, or it's online. Whether it's in person if you're in Australia, and if you're in Australia, it's in the nest of your home. It is very delicate and precious time, whether it's postpartum and you need someone to come in and give some postpartum doula services, or we can do it online. So really important to really honor this period of postpartum in order to establish more than enough immunity in the baby and really to enlighten it because, remember, your baby has this.
Speaker 1:So let's get more into specifics. Besides postpartum rejuvenation for the mother, what else specifically can be done to enhance the baby's immune system? Well, let's talk about baby dinner charia, which means baby daily routine. There's a daily routine that can be done every day for the baby, with the main daily routine being baby abhyanga, baby oil massage, and this is crucial. This is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic baby care. This is a cornerstone of a method to boost your baby's immune system.
Speaker 1:The real, foundational immunization is giving your baby an oil massage every single day. That's going to calm the nervous system because our skin has more nerve plexuses than any organ of the body. It has more nerve endings, it has trillions of nerve endings and these oils penetrate the skin, build the lymph which circulates the immune system. It builds the tissues, whatever we call, builds the dhatus. It is protecting the body, it's creating a shield Every day. If you're giving your baby an oil massage before their bath, then you bathe it off and we bathe after, because the oil pulls out toxins from the skin, the lymph of the blood and it washes them off. So every day we're massaging our baby, we're massaging a shield onto them. This is a shield from, for example, viruses and infections. There's something on the outside is trying to get inside. We call this the energetic periphery. We strengthen their energetic periphery, we strengthen their physical periphery by giving them an oil massage enhancing their skin physiology. Their skin is a big protector, biggest organ. So baby abhyanga boosts immunity.
Speaker 1:There's different oils you can use, there's different techniques and for that you can refer to the show notes. We have resources, plenty of resources, detailed videos as well as newly added. For those who already know about these videos, we've just added a cheat sheet where it's a PDF and you don't have to watch a video to learn the Abhyanga, the baby massage. You can just look at the sheet and see the steps, the code steps, and learn that way. So this is really, really beneficial.
Speaker 1:Baby Abhyanga. But after baby Abhyanga, there's more. After you've put the oil on the baby, before the bath, you can put what's called udvartanam or uptam, and that is applying a herbal paste over their skin. This enhances circulation, enhances their skin health, and this paste is ultimately especially to wash off the oil. Then we go into bathing, which actually is a very important part of our baby immunization is bathing the baby. Bathing the baby is so important. This water is what we call kapha, earth and water element. It builds the tissues. It really strengthens the baby. It strengthens the body, it promotes vitality. After a shower do you recognize how you feel strong and ready and virile? This is what bathing does to a baby and every day bathing after abhyanga, after oil massage it strengthens them.
Speaker 1:I also want to mention one very common mistake which people make about bathing their babies is they bathe them after food Particularly I'm talking toddlers, when they're all messy after their dinner and then get in the bath. I want to wash you. This is a real big problem and I'm glad I'm bringing it to this podcast because it happens way too common and people don't know about this enough. And that is after your baby eats a meal. Big or small, it doesn't matter. After they eat a meal, they are digesting. Their blood is in their digestive tract, their agony, their fire, is in the gut. As soon as you bathe, that blood is going to go to the periphery of the body. That that blood, that that prana, that agony is going to. That metabolic fire is going to go to the skin and it just left the gut if it was in the gut digesting things. But whenever we bathe, we have our blood, we have our agony go to the skin, go to the periphery.
Speaker 1:And the problem is, if you do that after bathing, is that's going to just say sorry digestion. I know you've got a nice, whatever. You give you a peas and mashed potato with some chicken to digest, but sorry, you're going to have to leave you to be turning into undigested, sticky, toxic material because this little baby's bathing and there's a lot of water hitting the skin and I just got to go and metabolize that water hitting the skin right. So, on the contrary, if you bathe your baby, that's going to really ignite the appetite. If you do it before bathing, before eating, sorry, if you bathe before eating, it enhances the acne, enhances the digestive fire, enhances the appetite. And there you go, you can digest well. So try for yourself. Adults yeah, you, adult listening try for yourself. Just have a.
Speaker 1:If you're used to bathing after, or even going for a swim at the beach, after your fish and chips on the beach, there's indigestion there. Wait a bit, wait a couple hours at least after a meal to digest before bathing. Or if you're going in your pool after your Christmas, summer lunch or winter, whatever lunch you have. No, we want to leave a gap after eating, before bathing. And on the other hand, if you bathe on an empty stomach before eating, you'll feel how much it actually increases the digestive strength and power. So we give the baby a massage, we rub them in a herbal paste. Optional Massage, essential, mandatory.
Speaker 1:If you want a strong immune system Uptam, which is a, we sell the herbs. You simply mix it with a bit of milk or water or rose water or breast milk and rub it on them. Beautiful, efficient way to get the baby's oil off and it's a beautiful ending to the Abhyanga. And then we bathe them and then we fumigate them. So this is part of the baby dinner, charia, baby daily routine.
Speaker 1:So we get some coal. I like to use that coal. You know you get from tobacco stores. They use for shisha pipes or nagila pipes. You just burn it on the stove, heat the coal up, put it on a hot plate and sprinkle herbal resin on that coal. What herbal resin? Well, we make a formula for babies. We also make a formula for vaginas, for what's called yoni dupam, vaginal smoking or vaginal fumigation, for any bacteria, yeast and even for postpartum, and both that formula is the same.
Speaker 1:So we sell a herb called dupam and it's a formulation of certain resins and herbs which you sprinkle on that coal and it makes smoke and you can fumigate whatever you want. You can fumigate the baby itself, especially its head, its ears, any places that have extra moisture. We fumigate after the baby's bathing. We can just put in the house as like a, as if you would incense, but a more antiviral, antiseptic smoke. And especially in india they, what they do is they'll hang the baby in a hammock and they'll just put that smoke, that dupam, which we call fumigation under the baby and just let the smoke go on the baby's body. But we hold the baby, give it a bit of a fumigate and clean it clean viruses, clean bad bacteria and make it smell nice and beautiful. It's a really beautiful ritual.
Speaker 1:It's great, especially for real infants, but can be done for all babies. Not something that personally I lost doing after my baby hit around one years old and when we were traveling more, but something which is great to do, and particularly when they're young. And the last thing is a certain way to dress the baby, to improve their vision and to improve certain energetic expressions of their appearance. How do we deal with the baby in the world? How do we dress our baby? What can we do to our baby so that people and things that look at the baby look at it with purity and love, rather than any harsh energetic intentions or non-intentional harsh energies that will travel to the baby? So basically, you could call it evil eye, you could call it negative energies. How do we dress the baby to have some harmony in those areas?
Speaker 1:So check out on our website, vitalvatorcomau forward slash courses and check out the baby immunization routine program, the daily routine. It's really fundamental routines. This is not something that you just do for I'm gonna it's not, I don't want to vaccinate so I'm gonna just do this. No, it's actually something which is. It's very simple, it's for busy parents to incorporate into their lives. It's practically able to integrate, and if you can't do this, then you may as well not feed your baby. It's like as essential as feeding your baby in their mouth. You feed their baby in the skin, through their skin. These oils, particularly when it's a medicated oil designed to increase the baby's tissues and their growth factor, their strength factor, their bone growth all these tissues Medicated oils. Otherwise, you can use some standard oils which you can get in your local supermarket and for those you can see. So check out that on wwwvolvaynercomau.
Speaker 1:Baby Dhinacharya, or Baby Massage Wonderful practice, beautiful practice for parents, beautiful practice for caregivers. Forward slash courses. Baby dhinacharya, or baby massage wonderful practice, beautiful practice for parents, beautiful practice for caregivers, beautiful practice for anyone who wants to help a family out who gave birth, and a wonderful way to connect with the baby. By the way, a very good remedy or intervention for boosting fertility. If anyone's having fertility problems or not having problems and just wants to boost their fertility, give a baby a massage, the amount of oxytocin that flows from you is huge, huge, and there's studies that show the amount of oxytocin that flows from the masseuse is greater than the one who receives. So when you give a younger, aphrodisiac oil massage to a baby, wow, it's an oxytocin bomb and it's a very good way to boost fertility and it's a good thing to do before trying.
Speaker 1:Right now, I would like to speak about Ayurvedic immunization protocols in regards to herbs. Before I talk about this, I want to emphasize why I made this podcast episode, why I've been meaning to do it. I have so many clients who are not confident in the way that they immunize. I'm not confident in their baby's immunity. They're not confident in their own interventions and a lot of them, on a heart level, on a level of feeling, on an intuitive level, don't want to go through conventional practices or feel these conventional practices are harmful and have an overall negative connotation to it. By conventional practice, I mean injecting babies with chemicals and known neurotoxins, for example. There's other ones, there's a bunch of other ones. There's vitamin K injections. There's oh, your baby's deficient in iron, we need to give this or all these medications that kind of seem weird, particularly for a postpartum mother. Don't feel good because they're so sensitive and so connected to their baby, hopefully.
Speaker 1:But the problem is lack of knowledge. Knowledge is power and when you don't have the knowledge, you don't have the empower. You don't have the empowerment to be confident in one's own, in your own immune system, in your baby's immune system and and overall the way that you do things. I want you, at the end of this podcast episode, I hope that you can at least be on the pathway to becoming more confident in yourself and okay, this is the way I'm doing things and it's good the way I'm doing. These things are great, they're powerful, they're far powerful. I mean, I'm talking stuff that's been immunization protocols which have been going on for millennia, compared to 200 years of modern vaccine research which, by the way, has a low success rate, very low, and bunch of side effects. So so I want you to feel confident, and even in this world, this quote-unquote modern world of all these things.
Speaker 1:So now I would like to speak about a particular Ayurvedic immunization protocol. A bunch of them, but different ones, but one called Swarna Prashana. So Swarna Prashana is a classical. Swarna Prashana is a classical and I mean classical Ayurvedic immunization practice of administering honey infused with purified gold ash, which we call Swarna or Swarna Basma, plus some herbs, to infants. So honey plus gold plus herbs, administering to infants Very small amount.
Speaker 1:This has been going on for a long time, even it's been documented from 600 BCE and from there it's said to enhance particularly the medha, which is intellect, intelligence of a baby, to enhance the agni, the digestion of a baby, which, by the way, is really important when it comes to immunity. How well can your baby digest viruses, pathogens, bacteria, anything that's entering their body? How well can they digest it? Swana Prasana also enhances Balam, which is strength, balam and lifespan, ayush Plus many other benefits, so many other benefits of Swana Prasana. And I can read the shloka. It says prashna. And I can read the shloka, it says so. This literally says that swarna, which is gold.
Speaker 1:Prashna means consumption. Indeed, it increases the intellect, the digestion, the strength, enhancing life givinggiving auspicious mangalam and ponyam, virtuous vrisham and aphrodisiac as well, complexion enhancing and grahapanam, the remover of energetic or planetary afflictions. So this is, from some of the shastras, the classical text of ayurveda. So and by the way, just a note on the aphrodisiac doesn't mean, oh, your baby's going to get horny, it means that it's going to build their reproductive system over time. You know, and this is aphrodisiac doesn't just mean I want to have good sex at the time, no, it's. It's the strength of your reproductive organs which, even in a baby and in Ayurveda in adults as well is the home to the immune system. The reproductive capacity of one, the virility of one, is closely linked and in the same anatomical position as the immune system which we call ojas and erythro. So this is super important.
Speaker 1:Swana Prashanam, a wonderful classical formula I just want to mention. When you give Swana Prasha, you give it from birth Some people say even before breast milk milk. The father or the partner or whoever dips their finger in a bit of this swanoprusha, this honey mixed with golden herbs, and just puts it in the lips of the baby, puts it on the limbs, a little dab and it and I've had clients who have just reported this beautiful, subtle explosion, sensory infusion of wakeful health. Wakeful health enters the body with this immune boosting special substance and you give it from birth, from day one. You can give it to up to around 10 years old or even 16 years old to a child, the, the doses or the the regularity differs because it has gold ash. It is an expensive herb usually and therefore it depends kind of on your budget how frequently you want to give it.
Speaker 1:Definitely, I recommend first seven days you can give to the baby, but ideally you give from birth for at least 30 or 40 days every day. Then after that you can give it once a month, starting on a certain constellation. So we, when we give it during the month is according to the astrology and that can be given for three or seven days. So, for example, say you want to give it for 40 days, from birth day 1 to 40. Or if you're listening to this and your baby's already 2 years old or 6 years old or 10 years old or 1 year old, and you just want to start now to give Swana Prashna a time-tested immunization which is so powerful, and I hope that you can confidently be assured that this antioxidant properties and its ability to mitigate stress, oxidative stress in newborns, especially those who are overcoming challenging circumstances like genetic disorders or any of those very hard inflictions, that you're confident this is adequate, because I'm telling you from many experience of people who are babies, who are now in their approaching double digits or in double digits. It's done very well for them. So you give it first 40 days and then maybe once a month, you give it seven days a month or you give it three days a month and that's every month, starting on a certain constellation. Now, if that's too hard for you, on Vataveda and you can check out the show notes, once again we give the dates of that constellation. It's called Pushya Nakshatra, which is a certain auspicious constellation where the stars allow more nourishment to flow, more healing nourishment, particularly to flow into the human. And check it out, check out the dates, put it in your calendar and oh, it's Pushya Nakshatra today, because every year it's different. It's this constellation, so let's start the herbal immunization for the baby for seven days. That's swan aprasha, now gold basma. You'll find studies on this. You'll find a modern research on on gold basma and swan aprasha. It's probably it's a nano medicine, so it has the ability to penetrate into the nano cells and channels and subtle channels. It's going to be something which is going to become big in Ayurveda.
Speaker 1:Mark my words now as I record this early 2025, this aspect of Ayurvedic herbology called basma, which is herbal mineral substances. In this case I'm talking about gold. But basma, these, these ash, calcinated mineral and metals which have made into ash, purified, then made into ash. It's not just gold like, it's not just 24 karat gold, it's 24 karat gold that has undergone an extensive purification process of dipping it in certain herbal decoctions and then dipping it in fire and then again in the herbal decoction multiple times and then killing it, as in making it into ash Marana as they call it in Ayurveda. It literally means killing, but it's like incinerating the gold into an ash and this ash makes it very bioavailable for the body and a fantastic, very reputable way to penetrate into certain parts of the body, like the brain.
Speaker 1:Gold ash is not just for babies, it's for adults as well, and particularly for cognitive conditions and cognitive enhancement. So this practice, by the way, called Svanaprasana, is actually one of the 16 rites of passage in the Vedas. In the Vedic sciences there's 16 rites of passage called the Shodasha Samskara, which includes things like a baby shower during pregnancy and the first time you feed your baby, solid food and the naming ceremony for the baby and when your baby steps into knowledge, the string therapy and the marriage is a samskara rite of passage, and one of them is actually Swana Prashna. So this is a very important thing. It's very powerful. Thus it's very common in India.
Speaker 1:It's been done for thousands of years and I'm going to soon be speaking about the irrational rumor and myth and status quo that honey is not good for babies. Now I want to mention, on swanaprashana, because it is the main ayurvedic herbal immunization program, that it's very important to source authentic Swarna Prasana formulations. You should avoid harmful additives like using a honey that is heated or using a honey that is bad quality or not raw or heated honey. It becomes poison. And also the herbs they use. Proper use of herbs and combination is very important. It's called some yoga. And also the use of metals. You know we're dealing with metal, say. Although gold is a relatively safe metal, still all metals in a way to requires proper purification, careful purification, as I mentioned, and particularly metals, because they're mixed with other metals. Right, they can be mixed with heavy metals a lot of the time, so it needs to be properly purified. Always consult, please, always consult with a quality Ayurvedic professional before considering such treatments, please, and don't just go search online for swanaprasana. Get from a reputable brand, get from a reputable manufacturer. It doesn't mean and I'm talking not a main manufacturer, I'm talking to small people but ideally please consult your Ayurvedic physician.
Speaker 1:And there are other herbs that complement immune building protocols, other Ayurvedic formulas. In fact there's a very powerful type of Swana Prascha called Swana Prascha, pushya or Pushya, probably pronounced Pushya but spelled Pushya, probably pronounced Pusha but spelled Pusha, and that is basically my teachers formulated Swana Prasad over 27 constellations, so over 27 months. On this particular constellation called Pusha that you should be giving it at, or that's that constellation which allows nectar to flow more easily. They do that over 27 and that's a special batch which is for those who it's karma. They get to meet that, or their baby gets to meet that and the adult gets to meet that, gets to feed that on their finger every day to the baby or, however, once a month or whatever you choose. There's also a more affordable kind of formula of similar to Swana Prashna you can say kind of inferior, but again something same thing. You give it on the pusher nakshatra. That constellation is called pusher drops and and we've got that for that reason, for it to kind of be more affordable another ayurvedic herb which is particularly good. For once, the baby starts eating.
Speaker 1:So around six months old right up until you know teenagers is swasa kasantak yog. It's a long name. It, like swasa, means swasa swasa respiratory issues, kasa kasa is cough and swasa kasantak yog is that which enhances the upper respiratory system and allergies. So it's a powder. It's a sweet powder. It can even be given in breastfeeding babies if they have some presentations of excess mucus not nice colored mucus or breathing difficulties or coughing or kind of respiratory issues. You can give like a baby size pinch With swastika santak yog. It is a powder you give according to the person's size pinch. So as an adult like me, personally I take it in my chai or my morning milk or just a cup of hot water. I love it. It's a sweet tea. It boosts the immune system and the upper respiratory system. But for a baby you'd give their size pinch and if they're not drinking drinks which is nice in a hot drink you just put it directly in their mouth.
Speaker 1:Sosan and Lehm is another wonderful formula. It works more on the lower lobes of the lung and more on the prana, more on the rasa, which we call. Rasa means like the essence of the body, that which circulates, the immune system and the particularly respiratory tract and lungs. And there's anansid yog, which literally means highly capable, bliss formulation. So it's great for the lung, great for the coughs and just a general immune booster, a beautiful sweet honey-based paste for babies ands and just a general immune booster, a beautiful sweet honey based paste for babies and adults and children. And it's a wonderful anansid yog. And baby agni is another one. Baby agni is a wonderful formula which has been used for a few decades now a bit more like over 50 years actually and is really effective for any imbalance in the baby's digestion and, as I said, digestion is so key for immune function. And then there's swargany, which is a bit more advanced. Digestive issues are more troublesome.
Speaker 1:So all these herbs you can see on the show notes, these are all formulas which I've just mentioned. They're not conventional formulas, they're not something you just find anywhere. They're specific formulas, because what we work with Vitalv veda is specific, highly refined formulas which are on its own so immuno herbs, so important ayurvedic herbs for immune system. You know we're living in a world today where food is not enough. We need the special foods and that's what the herbs are. You know. We're not giving extracts. We're not giving nutraceutical vitamins or probiotics or anything, that kind of isolated compounds that have been formulated in their lab. I'm talking about whole herbs, basically like a precious food. Right, Give your babies herbs.
Speaker 1:Now I want to speak about the myth of honey for babies. I want to debunk the myth, the honey myth, and why honey deserves a place in infant care. Well, let's ask yourself, why is honey villainized for babies in the West, while countless cultures celebrate it as a gift of nature? This was going to be a whole other podcast, because for millennia, honey has been revered across civilizations as a symbol of nourishment, healing and vitality. Yet only recently, in 1978, did honey become a forbidden food for infants under one years of age in the west, in western medicine, india, arab countries, persia, african countries, all these places, egyptian. They've been doing this non-stop for millennia. Now, the shift of only since 1978 did honey create was because of these concerns over infant botulism.
Speaker 1:Now, botulism is a rare but serious condition. It's caused by Clostridium botulum spores, and these spores can be found in soil, dust, in certain food, including honey, and in very rare instances they may very rare instances. They may colonize an infant's immature digestive system and the spores can then produce a neurotoxin that can disrupt nerve function. Now the problem with this is the so-called risk associated with honey was based on limited evidence from a very small number of cases in California, which was poorly understood at the time. In fact, botulism spores were detected in various everyday environments, not just honey, but of course, the focus fell disproportionately on honey. Fell disproportionately on honey, and this assumption, rather than robust science, was enough to just put a blanket recommendation against honey for infants. But is this fear truly justified? Has precaution overshadowed millennia of wisdom and cultural medical practices that honor honey's place in infant care? Well, we'll be doing a full podcast episode exploring this topic in depth, covering the science, the traditional Ayurvedic and cultural wisdom around honey for infants and the real risk factors. Make sure to subscribe to the Vital Veda podcast, your podcast for health news, ayurveda consciousness, veda laws of nature. Make sure to subscribe to the Vital veda podcast and stay tuned for this upcoming episode on the myth of honey for babies.
Speaker 1:I would now like to talk about vaccines and why they may not be necessary in most cases. Controversial topic. I want to focus on education and empowerment. I don't want to bring any attention to fear or controversy. I want to empower you with knowledge. You make your own decisions. There's definitely a correlation between vaccines and potential side effects, including research linking them to autism and other conditions. The people who say there's no shown evidence of it's just speculation is complete BS. There is plenty of reputable reviewed studies, peer-reviewed studies and a bunch of scientific studies on the correlation between vaccines and their side effects, including autism, and I'm not going to go into that now. You can do your own research. We'll put a link to a wonderful resource from Dr Miriam Teltenbaum, who has got listed all those studies, those revidable studies, and you can look at that yourself.
Speaker 1:I do want to speak briefly about the vitamin K vaccine because somewhat apparently less harmful. Maybe so, but it's very common practice to give the vitamin K shot to newborns to deal with kind of blood clotting or excessive bleeding or hemorrhaging. Now this is, again, not needed a lot of the time, especially if the mother has sufficient vitamin K herself and if there's no intervention or no bleeding or no serious condition. Any of this happened during pregnancy. If the birth was pretty smooth I mean the birth's smooth maybe it's not necessary. You can also have alternatives. There's oral vitamin K. There's just increasing vitamin K in the diet during pregnancy and postpartum, and there's also concerns about preservatives and additives in the injectable form of vitamin K. There's other vaccines. I mean let's talk about travel vaccines, the hepatitis B vaccine, I mean vaccines. I mean, let's talk about travel vaccines. The hepatitis B vaccine, I mean hepatitis B vaccine is often given to birth despite it being a sexually transmitted infection.
Speaker 1:Okay, this is very low risk and we need to really be informed. And again, you want to be confident in your own interventions and the way you do things and start claiming your power and start stepping into your power. It's really important about being informed, understand the natural alternatives, understand what is available other than conventional immunizations, ie vaccines and also understand that there's things which have been time tested over thousands of years. And even though we didn't have Wi-Fi and EMF for too long and all the toxins and the chemicals and the pesticides, trust me, this stuff is like this ancient wisdom which is so relevant or rather, shall I say, timeless wisdom and timeless interventions really more important now than ever. And the millions of years of human evolution that has shaped the development of a child's immune system, combined with thousands and thousands of years old Ayurvedic immunization protocols. That combination of time-tested human evolution or really millions of years of human evolution with time-tested Ayurvedic immunization protocols provides a level of sophistication and efficacy that surpasses what a couple of centuries of vaccine development in allopathic medicine has achieved.
Speaker 1:Vaccine for travelers, right. So what do they say in Australia and the US? They say you go to India, southeast Asia, you got to get your measles, your mumps, your rubella, you got to get your Tdap, which is your tetanus. You got to get your polio, you got to get influenza vaccine. And then there's these are all routine, actually. And then you go. Okay, you're traveling. Well, protect against typhoid, against waterborne infections and food infections, hepatitis A that can be spread through food and water. You know rabies, like for sure. Like all these, are there Malaria, a hundred percent.
Speaker 1:But again, step into your power. What are you doing to prevent and do these vaccines really protect? Hard to say. Do they have side effects? Easy to say. Evidence is there. Do what you like. Whatever you do, vaccine or not, it's fine. But it's not enough to just vaccine and say that's enough to protect my baby's immunity, because it's not. You need to have fundamental herbs and protocols and practices like baby oil massage, good diet, good postpartum activity, good emotional release, good digestion of the baby For their own innate immune system to be empowered. You're not just going to get it exogenously from a vaccine. You'll get some viruses, you'll get some bacteria, you'll get some of the bad stuff that's out there, but you really ultimately need to empower your own immune system.
Speaker 1:In ayurveda we have two main immune system. One is called sahaja balam, which means that the immunity that you're born with, and the other is called yukti balam, which means the strength and immunity you have developed through intelligence. So, first of all, sahaja balam, what you're born with. This is why I spoke about the seed immunity really working at the immune system before conception, like how can we optimize the sperm so that that human can have a good immune system? How can we optimize the egg so that human that's coming in the future through that vagina can have a good immune system? But that's okay, most of us, and probably you listen to like, okay, well, I'm beyond that. If you haven't conceived yet or you plan to conceive, great, you, you can work on the sahaja balam of your baby. But we need to also look at the yukti kruta, and that is immunity and strength which is developed through being intelligent, literally like being intelligent.
Speaker 1:Is it intelligent to get a hepatitis B vaccine when the baby is one year old or six months old, or whatever? Is it intelligent to be putting injections in them? Is it intelligent to be giving them an oil massage every day? Is it intelligent to be giving them good food, to be giving them breast milk, to be breastfeeding them appropriately and not excessively, and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. You get me All right Africa. They talk about yellow fever vaccine, typhoid, hepatitis A and B, blah, blah, blah, just so you know. Meningococcal meningitis, so you know meningococcal meningitis, chlorella, rabies or malaria. These are all common things as well. So let me tell you, you can get immunization very well, even if your baby is quote, unquote immunocompromised or they have certain conditions. Then you will need to up the herbs or up the sophistication of the protocol, but it's definitely available.
Speaker 1:And once again, parental confidence in natural immunization techniques. I want to reassure you that you do have the tools to support your child's immune health efficiently and effectively through Ayurveda and natural practices, and really the empowerment comes from understanding and actually applying these time-tested practices, experiencing them, seeing how they affect the baby, seeing the results they have. So to summarize in this podcast episode as we wrap up now, first of all, thank you for joining me. If you stayed to the end, congratulations. I really want to emphasize again preconception, if you can, then how do you do birth? Is it delayed core clamping? Simple as that. How can you support the baby's innate immune system in the first two months or first six months of birth? Really, it is proper postpartum care. We're really looking at the mother and and rejuvenating them effectively. One of our better specialties is rejuvenating the mother, giving the herbs for immunity to the baby. So herbal immunization protocols such as swanaprasana and baby dinacharya, baby daily routine really is what is going to keep that immune system every day protected throughout teenagehood, throughout 10 years old, 11 years old and eventually they start doing it themselves.
Speaker 1:And digestion is so important. Really, get your babies to have good digestion through good eating practices Starts with the breastfeeding right. How are you breastfeeding excessively? Are you breastfeeding because they're emotional? That's going to create bad habits in their taste buds and in their timings of digestive secretions etc.
